Chorister Guidelines

The choir has a number of procedures in place which aid the success of our organisation. Our concerns regarding times, venues and uniform may seem exaggerated however, we endeavour to manage over 3500 girls throughout our four states and twenty rehearsal venues safely and efficiently on a weekly basis. We set rules and times in an effort to mutually benefit the individual and the choir as a whole.

We believe that our newsletters contain all relevant details about your daughters' participation in the Australian Girls Choir. Should you have any queries after reading your newsletter, please do not hesitate to call your State Office or our Head Office Tollfree on 1800 338 142. 

Following please find the choir guidelines; we would appreciate it if you would adhere to these requirements.

1. Your Venue Manager is your first point of contact with any administration queries each week. The venue manager communicates regularly with the office. Should you have any queries that your venue manager is unable to answer then please do not hesitate to contact the office.

2. Punctuality - please drop off and collect your daughter on time. It is preferable that the girls arrive at their rehearsals around 5 minutes prior to the start time. You will need to accompany your daughter to the door of the rehearsal venue and collect her from the same point. We endeavour to have classes and extra rehearsals finish promptly and appreciate your efforts to collect the girls at the set time. If someone who is unknown to your venue manager is to collect your daughter please issue them with a note to this effect.

3. Dress - Piccolo, Vivo and Allegro Choristers should wear comfortable clothes and should have their hair tied back off their faces.

4. Choristers from Avanti level up are required to wear their rehearsal uniform to every rehearsal. All choir uniforms, music satchels and bags should be clearly labeled with your daughter's name.

5. Music and Music Folder. All choristers except Piccolo and Vivo will receive original copies and licensed photocopied music throughout the year. This music is on loan only and must be returned to the venue at the end of each semester. Girls in these levels are also requested to bring a display book or ring binder with at least ten plastic sheets suitable for holding music to each rehearsal, with a pencil attached by a string. We encourage all choristers to take special care of this music; music should not be unstapled and may only be marked in light lead pencil and only when the girls are asked by their tutor to do so. It is important for all parents and choristers to understand that we are bound by strict copyright laws and that all music and any similar material from the Australian Girls Choir is not to be copied in any form other than that permitted by these laws and our contractual arrangements.

6. Music Schools are held for choristers in the Allegro to Concert levels on one weekend per year and the cost is included in annual fees.

7. Girls are expected to be in attendance at every rehearsal. The only acceptable reasons for non-attendance at our senior levels are either a school engagement or illness. If you anticipate that your daughter will be absent from a weekly rehearsal, please notify your Venue Manager. For compulsory choir events please contact your State Office or our Head Office Tollfree on 1800 338 142.

8. Change of address or telephone number - please notify the office immediately if you have a change of address, home or work telephone numbers.

9. Resignations - should your daughter wish to resign from the choir, please notify Head Office in writing including her reason for discontinuing and return all music and costume. Classes are filled per term. On resignation fees will be calculated including the current Term and a $20 administration fee will be applied - any excess will be refunded. Refunds will not be processed without the return of the music and costume if applicable.
